September

What do you think of when someone says September?

If you're into fashion, the first thing that comes to mind is Vogue + The September Issue.

Or you might be day-dreaming about the Crisp Fall Air and leaves crunching as you take a long afternoon walk.

If you live on Nantucket, you're probably thinking 2 things...

1. It's the best month of the year!  The weather is still perfect for beach days and afternoon swims, and it also shrinks back to a comfortable size where you can find parking in town and a seat at a bar or dinner at a table without a reservation.

OR...

2. Wedding Season! Nantucket is packed at the commencement of each summer with Brides + Grooms to celebrate their special day on island time.

In celebration of things to come (in September), get the scoop with these insider tips from Jenny Benzie of Pour Sip Savor + Epernay Wines and special guest event planner David Handy of David M. Handy Events.

WEDDING MUSIC VIDEO: Non-Traditional FILMING FUN

I got a call just about 3 weeks ago asking me to film a MUSIC VIDEO for a wedding in 7 days.

I couldn't wait to jump on-aboard.  I knew this would be a perfect fit.

The Challenges:

This was a one camera shoot. One camera operator shoots can be quite challenging, especially at a wedding, and even more so a wedding Music Video. And while I wasn't planning to use any of the audio, as this was strictly suppose to be a lip-synching video, with no intro frills, I caught a great little line to lead into the video and couldn't resist adding to the edit.

Also challenging?  The fact that most of the wedding party didn't know the words to the song.  But even so, they were extremely fun and played along the entire weekend!

The Fix? I printed the Main Lines largely on sheets of paper + carried along a small 'Boom Box' for everyone to sing along to.

I got this message from the bride in my inbox yesterday... "We absolutely love the video. It is really fantastic! I can't stop watching it."

I hope to be able to do more non-traditional Wedding Videos like these.

HOT DAY? This video will COOL you OFF...

If you know me, I'm anything but traditional and typical when it comes to my lifestyle.  So why would my business be any different?

Lately, I've been working on some new ideas with ways to really branch out and build strong connection with my clients while making filming on an island adventurous. Rather than doing the typical one time commercial for a business, I've started working on something different with one of my clients...
Weekly & Bi-weekly VIDEO CONTENT

As a filmmaker on an island, having consistent work (and that work being all of what you love to do) can present some challenges.

These short videos have been great fun filling the gaps between those bigger commercial gigs. It's been great to work with a client for an extended period of time.  And extremely fun!

The pro's to this are the following:

New, fresh professional content for posting to not only through your social media outlets, but to build a video library for your website when people go to take a peek.

These videos don't require tons of editing time like a typical commercial, therefore allowing the price point to be much more approachable for small businesses on a budget.  The client comes up with their concept and message, and on location, I work on refining it to keep the video short, sweet and meaty for the audience.

3-4 minutes of content: informative, transformative and most certainly fun to film.  After all, who doesn't want to spend their days in beautiful Island locations?

WHY I LOVE VIMEO. And you will too.

When you are a filmmaker trying to post videos and show off the quality of your work, Vimeo Rules!

Vimeo is a great platform for hosting your videos in a high quality format, very close to the original you produce.

They also have some cool new features...

1. The Tip Jar

See something you love and are entertained by?  Give them a TIP. It feels great to support someone and keep them moving along their creative journey.

2. SELL &/or WATCH FILMS

They also now offer a platform where filmmakers can sell their own films!  It's like when the self-publishing movement happened in Book-Land.  A pretty cool quick and direct route to get motion pictures out into the world.

Whether you're a FilmMaker, FilmLover or BOTH, VIMEO is for you. Check it out and find some new entertainment!
